Admissions
Admission into the University of Illinois School of Music will be a significant turning point in your musical career. You will be among some of the world’s best educators and artists in their field as well as the most talented and promising students who will be learning side-by-side with you. It’s a rigorous process where we want to learn all about your talent, capabilities, and interests. Below describes the steps to admissions for both graduate and undergraduate admissions.

All applicants must apply to the University and the School of Music before an admission decision may be rendered.

Fall and Summer Application Deadlines

• December 1: Deadline for receipt of all Graduate application materials, including any prescreening materials (prescreening is only required for graduate voice, flute, conducting, and Music Education EdD candidates).

  See specific program for details concerning other documents that must be submitted with the prescreening materials.

• January 2: Final deadline for receipt of freshman applications for Fall 2008
• January 15 - March 1: Filing period for transfer applications* for Fall or Summer 2008
• February 16: Deadline to complete audition in order to be considered for merit-based scholarships

Undergraduate Admissions

Undergraduate admission to the School of Music is a two-step process.

Step 1: All applicants must first apply to the University of Illinois.

Step 2: Complete the School of Music Application and audition/interview process.

Auditions and interviews are not scheduled until the applicant has completed both the University application and the School of Music supplemental application.

Graduate Admissions

Graduate admission is also a two-step process. However, admission at this level is processed entirely by the School of Music Admissions Office.
