
Edward Rath
Associate Director and Assistant Professor of Music; Webmaster
B.M. with Distinction in Performance (piano), Lawrence University; M.M. with High Distinction (piano performance) and D.M. with High Distinction (piano performance), Indiana University-Bloomington. Student of György Sebök; chamber music coaching with Josef Gingold, Janos Starker, and William Primrose; vocal accompanying studies with Margaret Harshaw.
Edward Rath has served on the faculties of the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music, University of Wisconsin-Parkside, and Northwestern State University of Louisiana, and was also on the opera coaching staff at the University of Iowa School of Music. In addition to his wide-ranging administrative duties, he has taught the graduate piano literature class and private piano at the University of Illinois. A Steinway Artist, Professor Rath’s performance career includes solo recitals and guest appearances with orchestras, and he has been a chamber music partner with Laszlo Varga and Leonard Rose, and numerous University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign faculty colleagues. For 23 years, Professor Rath was administrative director of the Classical Music Festival, a program formerly sponsored by the University of Illinois School of Music, in Eisenstadt/Vienna, Austria. Professor Rath is president of Zeta Chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Society in Music and co-chair of the Music Panel of the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI). He is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Liszt Society and both Editor of the Society's Newsletter and Webmaster of its
website.
